Bear is the last remaining dog from a household where the owner's son is no longer present.
Bear is a fearful, undersocialized dog who will need a patient, experienced rescue. He is not leash trained and becomes highly reactive to leash pressure, including thrashing, biting, and chewing on the leash, making him difficult to safely handle and remove from the kennel.
Once in the play yard, Bear gradually relaxed and showed appropriate social behavior with calm dogs. He greeted other dogs with a neutral demeanor and soft, low tail wag, preferred to explore rather than play, and allowed brief petting from the handler before moving away. He would benefit from continued confidence-building, leash training, and slow socialization with calm canine companions.
At this time, no rescue interest has been shown, and Bear is in need of a committed rescue placement. The behaviors described reflect his responses in the shelter environment and may change as he decompresses in a stable home or rescue setting.
